Marathon Training – January

Heather Ogg - PEI Marathon Blogger

17 runs, 149kms, 15+ hours, 10,000 calories and we’re just getting started!

Our first 4 weeks of marathon training is over and it’s been some crazy fun. My group is awesome. Running in temperatures of -35 and ice storms haven’t stopped us. In fact the crazier it is to run, the more fun I seem to have. And it’s hard to imagine that by the time we’re running our marathons it will be May and stinking hot. But until then I’m loving winter running. Loving every step. The hardest part of training for a marathon? Coming up with a name for your running group. The Marathon Medallers? The Running Rumours? The Hard Asses? The Hard Cores? The Runny Boo Boos? Seriously, why is it so hard?!

After an awesome chilly 13km run with the marathon group. We nailed it except for having a bit of numb bum.
Back at home warming my cold feet by the fire. I’m never cold when I run. It’s when you stop running and all the sweat and dampness comes back to rest on your skin that you start to get cold. Really cold.

Ready to run our temp 6km after our Tuesday night marathon clinic. We rock people. We seriously rock.
My desk the night before, getting ready for our Tuesday night clinic. Topic was program design. The first 10 weeks we’ll concentrate on building endurance.

Ultimate Fan Day. Ran 13km in my #9 Maurice Richard Habs jersey. What can I say, I’m a proud Montrealer, and a little nutty.Heather Ogg - PEI Marathon Blogger

WE ARE ALL TREATY PEOPLE.

In the spirit of Reconciliation, we acknowledge that the land upon which we gather is unceded Mi’kmaq territory. Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), Mi’kma’ki, is covered by the historic Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Mi’kmaq People who have occupied this Island for over 12,000 years; past, present and future.
