A Day on a Lobster Boat

Lobster Fisherman

We had a totally fantastic day Up West documenting a day on a lobster boat for Royal Star Foods. Prince Edward Island still amazes me every single day. I can’t tell you how much I love doing this type of shoot, telling stories with my camera.

We were on the Spring Renegade with the very awesome Dwayne and Dean Handrahan out of Skinners Pond, and Royal Star Foods’ Sally Gaudet. They hauled 30 trawls, each trawl consisted of 6 lobster traps. A trawl is basically a set of lobster traps that is tied to a line between two buoys. We got to experience lobster fishing and a variety of sustainability practices, first hand. It was an incredibly beautiful day I will never forget which included cooking up the freshest, tastiest lobster I have ever had, cooked in salt water right there on the boat. Yeah, pretty sweet.

WE ARE ALL TREATY PEOPLE.

In the spirit of Reconciliation, we acknowledge that the land upon which we gather is unceded Mi’kmaq territory. Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), Mi’kma’ki, is covered by the historic Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Mi’kmaq People who have occupied this Island for over 12,000 years; past, present and future.
