The second leg of our European trip was in Luxembourg, a beautiful little country surrounded by Belgium, France and Germany.
We left France and took the train to Lorraine to go to Metz to visit family there and then drove to Luxembourg. Unfortunately we got on the wrong train heading for Strasbourg, Germany, but that story requires some wine and much more time. Let’s just say, I am not a fan of the SNCF trains in France.
But back to Luxembourg! It was fantastic! We had a lot of fun with our Luxembourg family. I loved it. Luxembourg is an incredibly beautiful place. It’s a great walking city with a big gorge through the middle, beautiful architecture, a rich history, and fun little streets full of fancy shops.
The Casemates are a vast complex of underground tunnels and galleries, begun in 1644 and used as WWII bomb shelters. The family had so much fun there.
The Pfaffenthal lift was really cool too. Now I am not good with heights at all, so this 71 metre high panoramic glass elevator was a bit scary at first, but it was so smooth going up and the view was so beautiful I was just in awe looking out at the city.
