A Day on the Farm

A fun as always day in the field shooting some farming shots for Canada’s Food Island with Chef Kyle Panton and wife Vanessa. The day didn’t start out great though. Every shoot I do requires a different combination of gear and so there is a lot of moving stuff around from camera cases and bags. I am usually extremely organized but this was one of only two instances I can remember where I messed up and forget something. On this particular day I arrived, got my camera out and didn’t have all my memory cards. They were back at home in another case. And to make things worse, I had no cell signal way out in the country. I finally got a hold of my husband and he drove them out to me. There was one card in my camera from my previous shoot so I started with that. I know Kyle and Vanessa so I wasn’t stressed, just mad at myself. So on we go.

The day was beautiful and we got some great images to market Canada’s Food Island. We were at One Visions Farms; One Chef, One Farmer, One Vision. Chef Kyle Panton and Farmer Curtis Penny got together with a shared vision of bringing local quality produce from seed, to the soil, to the table and came up with One Vision Farms.

While a joint effort in the planting, cultivation and harvesting of their produce, they each bring a specific area of interest to their adventure. Curtis prefers to be behind the scenes working the land and cultivating the crops to ensure the best quality produce they can grow, and Chef Kyle brings his knowledge of how to prepare the produce into beautiful dishes. They grow and sell quality, sustainable produce at Penny’s Farm and Garden.

Then we went over to Kyle’s farm and had some fun with his sheep, chickens and Romeo the pig. Fun stuff!
