32kms!

We’re at Week 14 of training! We’re running the BIG miles now. We ran our first of two 32km runs and it was awesome. 32km is the farthest we’ll train before the marathon. I’m running better than ever and feeling really strong. My recovery is getting a little slower as is to be expected. We finished hill training and speed training starts this week. How are you handling the long runs? Still having fun?

Icing my legs after our 32km. Yes lucky Islanders get to go to the North Shore and hang at the beach to ice our legs. PEI rocks!

Running has no shame.

After running our 32km I had some inexplicable sweating issues to which I am still perplexed. But it was good for a laugh. Running has no shame.

We’re so hard core.

I love running in the rain. It seems the worse the conditions the more fun I have. We all did our 23km in the pouring rain and totally rocked it! So much better than in the heat. We were flying! When we first headed out we were puddle-jumping, but after a couple of hours we were looking for puddles to jump in. Running Buddy Charlotte actually had her arms out like an airplane running through puddles down University. Very cool. It struck me as we were all running through puddles, that life is like running in the rain; there are going to be puddles and you just have to surrender and run right through them. Wow, running will make you SO deep.

Here we are soaked to the bone and loving it after our 23km run in the rain. We are so hard core.

Favourite Running Gadget

Nike has changed running completely. They marketed it into becoming something inspirational. They motivated millions of people with their brilliant “Just do it.” campaign and were leaders of the whole corporate benevolence trend. I love their ‘Live Strong’ campaign for cancer. I love gadgets and Nike has come up with something that has made all this running really fun. It’s called Nike+. It tracks everything about your runs and has created a world wide community that you can connect with. A bunch of us have been using Nike+ for a while and are following and supporting each other online as well. I’ve used the Running App with my iPhone since January. When I run, it posts on my facebook page and when my friends ‘Like’ it or comment, I hear a crowd cheering in my earphones while I’m running. My friends are cheering me on. How great is that?! Love it. I have received so much support and encouragement from my friends and hopefully inspired them to run.

Nike+Nike+ Running App

When our runs got longer and I was afraid my iPhone wouldn’t power the distance, I got the Nike+SportWatch which, like the Running App, posts everything to my Nike+ account. I have a history of every run since January. Awesome and fun.

Nike+ SportWatch GPS

Here’s an example of one of my runs. It lists the maps, kilometres, records, distance, time, pace, calories burned, elevation, and I can post it to facebook and tweet it on twitter. It also tracks the distance on each of my pairs of running shoes. So cool! I love it.
